MANHATTAN ARCHITECT’S FORUM PRESENTATION ARCHIVES

By sighting a wide spectrum of firms each year for their contribution to the field of architecture and design, our intention is to make the Manhattan Architect's Forum both popular and selective. Our purpose is to provide a better understanding of the current architecture and design scene in NYC. Both established firms as well as up and coming new firms will be invited to participate in Forum meetings.

After each meeting of the Manhattan Architect’s Forum, presentations of that meeting will be posted below.

Bianco Light & Space

Ideas are distilled through a minimal aesthetic producing works with a commitment to traditional studio materials and practices.

Bianco Light & Space was founded in 2013 by Anthony Bianco. Anthony received his B.F.A. in glass with an emphasis in sculpture and wood furniture design from the California College of the Arts in 2004. He has taught at various institutions across the United States including Public Glass in San Francisco, Chicago Hot Glass in Illinois, Urban Glass, Brooklyn Glass, New York Unversity, and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Dror

Dror creates ideas as a vehicle for change. Guided by a holistic core concept, each of our projects unleashes meaning through transformation, where a structural, emotional, or metaphorical shift yields profound results. Our passion for ideas stems from more than a desire to disrupt: Ideas reflect our experimental spirit and boundless imagination, and allow us to initiate a radical alchemy across disciplines. We use ideas as a medium to achieve value, integrity, and authentic connections.

The New York studio is led by Dror Benshetrit, a designer, thinker, dreamer, and futurist whose ingenuity informs a striking range of affecting, unconventional work. Together, our team of designers, artists, writers, and architects tackles ambitious pursuits by considering the big picture. Our intentionally cross-disciplinary work sharpens our larger understanding of the contemporary environment—built, aesthetic, or otherwise—fueling our ability to devise unexpected yet valuable ideas that lay at the intersection of art, architecture, and design. Rooted in the notion of change, a process in which an object is curiously indeterminate, our work effectively blurs and pushes boundaries.

We engage in unexpected collaborations with top-tier companies, developers, and institutions that share our commitment to promoting well-being through design. Since launching in 2002, we have partnered with Alessi, Bentley, Cappellini, SHVO, Target, and TUMI, among others, whose invaluable knowledge and technical expertise help bring our ideas to life in industries that vary in nature and size. Fueled by Benshetrit’s dedication to promoting well-being, the studio’s distinctive approach results in meaningful, imaginative work that contributes to the greater good.

Robert Debbane Studio

Robert Debbane Studio is based in Brooklyn, New York. Founded by artist and designer Robert Debbane, the studio has a collection of lighting designs fabricated on 3D printers. The work reveals a commitment to creating exceptional designs by thinking beyond the limitations associated with 3D printing.

As an artist, Debbane has worked in a variety of media including painting, photography, and installation. He has also been interested in the interaction between traditional art-making and digital processes. He began experimenting with 3D printers in 2011 as a tool to use in his art studio, which eventually led to the lighting designs the studio is currently producing.

Taking inspiration from the Islamic tile patterns found in his ancestral home in Sidon, Lebanon, forms found in nature, and images of outer-space, subjects Debbane has investigated through his artwork, the designs have a sculptural quality when unlit reminiscent of ancient relief sculptures. When illuminated, the geometric patterns are revealed in a surprising and dramatic way.

The work has been featured in the NY Times, DesignBoom, AD Home Germany, DETAILS, Maker Magazine, Boca Design Magazine, L’Orient Le Jour (Beirut) and 3D Printing Industry. It has been exhibited at WantedDesign, NY NOW, and FAB.com’s First Things First.
